AROMA

Floral & aromatic, showing flowering woody herbs, lavender, thyme & mint, along with blueberry & dark cherry fruits, & hints of spice.

PALATE

Flavours of dark berries, toasted exotic spice & dark chocolate. It has fine tannin structure & freshness of acidity that carries the fruit flavours into a lingering finish.

VINEYARD

Selectively harvested from a small sections of vineyard within the larger ‘block’/ vineyard site. Selected for visual balance of canopy to fruit, berry size and uniformity as well as flavour and tannin balance in tasting the fruit. Grown on deep sandy loam over limestone.

SEASON

The 2022 season started with cooler than average conditions, but fortunately these cooler temperatures didn’t bring any spring frost. Mild & dry conditions continued through out summer with low disease pressure. A burst of warm weather in late January helped push fruit ripening along. Harvest was generally later than average, but ripening was even & quality is very good across all varieties.

WINEMAKERS NOTES

The fruit was fermented on skins for 10 days with about 20% whole bunches included in the ferment. Pressed at dryness before being transferred to 100% French barrels for 22 months maturation. A mixture of new large format fine grain 500 Litre puncheons and old fine grain 300 Litre Hogsheads were used.
